    An Experimental Post Office was a temporary post office with all postal facilities like a normal permanent post office, opened primarily to make an assessment to determine the financial feasibility to establish and run a permanent post office at that place.

    The Experimental POs were often shifted to new locations or closed down or in some instances, made permanent.

    All Experimental POs were allotted an alphanumerical number begining with the Circle initial followed by the number of the PO. The use of alphanumeric characters to denote the locations of Experimental POs was first mentioned in Post Office Circular No. 40 dt. July 16,1883 issued by Frederick Rogers Hogg, Director General of Post Offices in India but, no subsequent circulars ever described the numbers corroborating the locations of Experimental POs.

    Experimental POs were provided the following datestamps and cachets.

    2. Registration Datestamp
    3. Parcel Datestamp
    4. Money Order datestamp
    5. Savings Bank datestamp
    6. Post Office Name Stamp (oblong)

    The “Sikkim Organic Festival 2016” was held from 18th to 20th January, 2016 by the Sikkim Govt. ICCOA was invited as the main resource partner for the Program.
    The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the ‘Sikkim Organic Festival 2016’ on 18th Jan 2016, and addressed the Plenary Session of the National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok, Sikkim.
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his 2 day tour of Sikkim with a visit to Saramsa Garden where we witnessed organic agri produce displayed by 55 farmers from all over the State. Accompanied by Governor Shriniwas Patil and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling , he inspected the various organic vegetables and crops tastefully presented in 77 stalls at the 12-acre Saramsa Garden, located around 14 kms away from Gangtok. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling made an announcement that January 18 will be observed as ‘Organic Day’ in Sikkim annually on the advice of the State Governor, Shriniwas Patel.

    Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park or more popularly known as Darjeeling Zoo is located at the Birch Hill area (now known as Jawahar Parvat) was established in 1958. It was former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who dedicated this zoo in memory of Padmaja Naidu, former Governor of West Bengal and the daughter of freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu.

    This is the largest high altitude zoo in India at an elevation of 7,000 feet (2,134 m). It specializes in breeding animals adapted to alpine conditions and has successful captive breeding programs for the snow leopard, the critically endangered Himalayan wolf and the red panda. The zoo serves as the central hub for Central Zoo Authority of India's red panda program and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This is the first zoo in India to receive the prestigious international award "The Earth Heroes" 2014 out of over 300 zoos worldwide. This annual award is given away by Royal Bank of Scotland in collaboration with the British Government.
